Airport Second Phase Plan (plan) |
| Need for a Second Phase Airport Island With globalization and the use of information technology advancing much faster than anticipated, the role of airports in the areas of economic and cultural exchanges not only in domestic level but also worldwide is taking on greater importance than ever. Under such circumstances Kansai international Airport, which saw its beginning on September 4,1994, has received pressure from both home and abroad to further increase its capacity as an international hub airport. In order to meet the growing demand, Kansai inernational Airport launched its second phase construction in July of 1999 to supplement its current facilities with an additional runway of 4,000 meters according to the previously laid out master plan. The 2nd-phase project has been promoted smoothly in line with the plan, overcoming severer conditions of natural environment, scale, and construction period, as well as many technical problems that the 1st-phase project encountered. Efforts were made to create better land faster and at lower cost, while ensuring harmony with the surrounding environment and meeting necessary conditions of airport land. Use of a runway in a limited section started on August 2, 2007. We will make further efforts to promote smooth and efficient project toward completion of the unfinished sections. Your kind cooperation will be highly appreciated. |
