This is how the huge airport island is constructed

Island construction is roughly divided into three steps.

■Solidifying the seabed(Seabed Improvement Work

Below the seabed lies an over-20-meter thick layer of very moist, soft clay (called an alluvial clay layer). Firstly, the water must be removed to strengthen the clay.

Making a fence(Seawall Work)
Soil simply put into the sea does not withstand the current. Therefore, seawalls surrounding the island must be built to protect the Airport Island.

■Filling the space created by the seawalls with soil(Reclamation Work
When the seawall is almost completed, earth and sand are put in the enclosure little by little instead of dumping them at a time.
