This is how the huge airport island
is constructed
|
|
Island construction is roughly divided into three steps. |
| ■Solidifying the seabed(Seabed Improvement Work) |
|
Below the seabed lies an over-20-meter thick layer of very moist, soft clay (called an alluvial clay layer). Firstly, the water must be removed to strengthen the clay. |
| ■Making a fence(Seawall Work) |
| Soil simply put into the sea does not withstand the current. Therefore, seawalls surrounding the island must be built to protect the Airport Island. |
| ■Filling the space created by the seawalls with soil(Reclamation Work) |
| When the seawall is almost completed, earth and sand are put in the enclosure little by little instead of dumping them at a time. |
