Start of shipping of sand from the Misakicho district in Osaka Prefecture to the land reclamation site for the Second-phase Construction

Shipping of sand to be used in the second-phase land reclamation from the sand collection site in Misakicho in Osaka Prefecture, one of the major sites for sand procurement, to the reclamation site was initiated on March 27, 2001.This means that it has now become possible to supply the necessary sand from all the four major sand collection sites, including the Tsuna and Sumoto districts on Awajishima, and the Kada district in Wakayama Prefecture from where sand has already been shipped out.
Approximately 70 million of the 250 million total cubic meters of sand necessary for the second-phase reclamation work will be procured from the Misakicho district.About 70 to 80 thousand cubic meters of sand per day are planned to be transported to the construction site on the busiest days.
To inspect and check the sand when it is being loaded onto a sand carrier, an optical sand volume inspection system is used, a system whose effectiveness has already been proven at the Sumoto and Kada sites. This has contributed to more effective shipping of sand from Misakicho.
