For the implementation of the work, the Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd. and the Kansai International Airport Land Development Co., Ltd., on the basis of consultations with the Kansai International Airport Environmental Surveillance Organization formed by the governor of Osaka and the mayors of 9 cities and 4 towns of Sennan and others, have selected environment items which might be influenced by the work, and an 'Environment Monitoring Plan' deciding the investigation contents etc. for each environment item has been mapped out. On the basis of this plan, investigations of air quality, water quality, etc. are implemented, the investigation results are compared with environment standards, etc., and any influence of the work on the surrounding environment is checked. Management targets were established especially in regard to water turbidity and pollution of the atmosphere, and a system permitting rapid response in cases where an influence by the construction work could be considered was established, but until now, there have been no cases where results exceeding the management targets were measured because of the work. After the second runaway operation started operation, the monitoring has been performed based on "Environment monitoring plan for existence and operation" of the airport. The investigation results are consolidated in monthly and yearly reports, and they are reported to government agencies in Osaka etc. The investigation results also can be viewed in the Kansai International Airport Environment Center.
