Since the opening of the airport, the Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd. has implemented positive environment protection measures like reuse of processed waste water, effective energy use by introduction of a cogeneration system, promotion of a life environment for marine organisms in the form of a gently sloping rubble mound sea wall, etc.
Today, voluntary and positive efforts by all main entities are demanded in regard to solving of global environment problems, formation of a recycling oriented society, etc., and in order to continue the efforts for environment protection, on which the Kansai International Airport is based, the 'New Kansai International Airport Environment Management Plan (Eco Island Promotion Plan)' was mapped out in March 2007.

Basic policy

Basis of the plan

Purpose
To create a human-and eco-friendly airport that not only fulfills environmental targets based on environmental quality standards,but also by minimizes negative environmental impact on Osaka Bay and other surrounding areas.

Period
From 2008 to 2012

Objective
To target all of airport island, including all associated business entities and users, to pay due consideration and prevent any negative environmental impact caused by airport operation.

Management and Operation
In order to promote the environmental measures in cooperation with Kansai International Airport island's enterprisers etc., the Eco-island promotion meeting has been established according to decision of the new plan.
