A pollution-free Airport
With a polluion-free airport in mind, Kansai International Airport was constructed offshore in order to separate in from the densely populated urban areas of Osaka.but further efforts are made to reduce the influence of aircraft noise.
In case of new radio disturbance, the situation is grasped quickly and suitable countermeasures are taken.

(1) Measures taken to counteract Aircraft noise
  • Operation of Two Runways
  • Introduction of Low-Noise Aircraft
  • Strict Compliance with Flight Path and Altitude Regulations
  • Study on Low Frequency Noise from Aircraft

(2) Measure taken to counteract TV Interference
  • Implementation of Countermeasures
(3) Measures taken to reduce Air Pollutant Emissions
  • Promoting the "Stop Idling" Campaign
  • Introducing Low Emission Vehicles
  • Measures against exhaust gas
    Emissions from the incineration
    Center
(4) Measures taken to reduce Water Pollutant Emissions
  • Highly Developed Wastewater Treatment andUse of treated Water

An Airport Coexisting with Nature
Making use of its characteristics as an airport on the ocean, efforts are being made to create a space at ease with the surroundings and to form a life environment under consideration of space and ecology.

(1) Natural Environment Conservation
  • Creation of a Colony of Algae at Shallow Slope Rubble Mound Type Seawall, and Follow-up Studies
  • Planting of Greenery on Airport Island

(2) Landscape Conservation
  • Landscape Conservation on Airport Island

An airport with reduced negative Environment Impact

(1) Measures Taken to counteract greenhouse Gases

Ground power unit

  • Use of Ground Power Unit (GPU)
  • Installation of a hydrogen gas station
(2) Promotion of energy saving system
  • The air-conditioning control system of the gate lounge was (awarded “Minister prize of Economic,Trade & Industry”)
  • Installation of a hydrogen gas station

(3) Management of greenhouse Gases
  • Management of CFC-using equipment

Recycle oriented Airport
(1) Effective use of resources
  • Reduction and Recycling of domestic waste
  • Reduction and Recycling of industrial waste

(2) Reuse of treated water
  • Promoting treated water use

Clean center

Clean center
A User-friendly Airport Coexisting with the local community
(1) Disclosure of Necessary Information
  • Strengthening of Noise Complaint Handling System
  • Preparation of Environmental Report & CSR Report

(2) Closer Relationship with the local community
  • A Diversity of Information Supplement Opportunity
  • Provision of Learning Opportunities about Environmental Conservation Efforts

Use of treated water at the Kansai International Airport
In addition to using treated water for the toilets and for sprinkling on the airport island, water also is used to wash cars, to clean the pavement of civil engineering installations, and for fire fighting.
Today, the amount of treated water exceeds 40% used tap water.
