In cooperation with the offices on the island, the
Kansai International Airport makes efforts to reduce the load
onto the environment by processing the waste water and garbage
generated on the island directly on the island, by efficient
energy use, including the introduction of a cogeneration system,
and reuse of processed waste water, and positive environment
protection measures are taken by creating a marine life environment
on the gently sloping rubble mound breakwater.
In June 2008, the New Kansai International
Airport Environment Management plan (Eco
Island Promotion Plan) was established spontaneously
in regard to the complicated and diverse
environment problems.
This plan is not limited to meeting environment protection targets
for the operation of the airport, but it also aims for reduction
of the load onto the environment as far as possible and for
creation of an airport friendly to people and nature.
